Heuristiskt  datorstöd för analys och beslut (*.doc 550 kB)

Professionella bedömningar och beslut kan underbyggas genom datorstöd. En typ av datorstöd baseras på heuristik för att förenkla komplexa, osäkra problem. (2007)
Validating Reasoning Software (*doc, 663 kB) Abstract. Computer support of argumentation and reasoning extrapolates procedures from critical thinking. These procedures involve simplifications, in need of validation. Validation explains why and when reasoning procedures succeed, e.g. in managing wicked or ill structured problems. Visual reasoning software is a kind of heuristics for analyzing and presenting information. It can be validated from judgment analysis. The validation shows that a class of computer based visualization of reasoning support the two main types of heuristics for judgment and decisions: lexicographic heuristics and trade off heuristics. (2007)
Kan det intellektuella hantverket industrialiseras? (*.pdf, 70 kB) Är det möjligt att överföra traditionellt intellektuellt hantverk inom universitetsutbildning till datorstöd? (2004)
Testing Reasoning Software. A Bayesian Way (*.pdf, 70 kB) Abstract: Is it possible to supply strong empirical evidence for or against the efficacy of reasoning software? There is a paradox concerning tests of reasoning software.  I will show that both positions – skepticism vs. belief in efficacy – can be compatible with evidence. This is the case if (1) the testing methods differ, (2) the facilities of observation differ and (3) tests rely on contextual assumptions. (June 2005)
Conceptual Uncertainty and Reasoning Tools (*.pdf, 94 kB) Abstract. This paper studies a more inclusive class of reasoning support than formal logic. In the present approach, conceptual uncertainty, including vagueness is represented as higher order uncertainty. A taxonomy of epistemic and conceptual uncertainty is provided. Finally, implications of conceptual uncertainty for reasoning support systems are analyzed. (July 2007)
Testing tools of reasoning. Mechanisms and procedures (*.pdf, 372 kb)

Abstract. This paper claims that there are two kinds of empirical testing: intercontextual and intracontextual, depending on the intended scope of inductive generalization. Intercontextual tests would need to correct for mechanisms contributing to effects. Such mechanisms are today largely unknown. Intracontextual testing is far safer. But are not its lessons tied to a specific context? It will be shown that, to some extent, its lessons generalize beyond its context. (July 2007)
